Recent News Review – ‘How to prevent back pain?’ The Guardian, August 26th 2019
Did you see the latest article in The Guardian which featured a UK Chiropractor from the British Chiropractic Association talk about how to avoid back pain? The main take home was the importance of regular exercise and frequent movement and activity throughout the day….and we couldn’t agree more! The main goal of our clinical team is to get our patients pain free and moving well as quickly as possible so you can get back to doing the things you love, and maybe even start to try some new forms of exercise.
Even if you struggle to fit in regular exercise, there are adjustments you can make to everyday life to take care of your back. Taking the stairs instead of a lift, for example, or getting off your bus a few stops early and walking the rest of the way to work. If you’re stuck in the office all day, taking a “micro-break” every half an hour is vital. This could be just standing up and stretching; an easy stretch for the office is the upper trapezius neck stretch, which targets the muscles that commonly become tense after sitting for a long time.

Our Chiropractors (and the rest of our team) try to practice what they preach, many are regular gym goers, Dan from our Staines Clinic is an avid golfer, Natasha in New Malden is a weightlifter and ‘crossfitter,’ Nick is a keen runner and has recently taken up yoga and Petina and Dom are our resident workplace ergonomic experts (it’s them we have to thank for the introduction of our standing desks!!)
Have a think about how you can incorporate more movement into your day and give us a call if pain is preventing you from doing so!
